Akemi Yamamoto’s Journey – From Technology to the World of Healing
Akemi Yamamoto began her career at a leading computer company in Japan,
spending seven years helping businesses embrace digital transformation.
This experience laid a strong foundation for her entrepreneurial journey.
After giving birth, she felt a deep calling to build something meaningful.
In 1988, she founded her own company, starting with DTP and database services, then expanding into branding and design.
Her leadership and hands-on approach led to contracts with major banks and public agencies.
In 1999, she joined a social entrepreneurship program in the U.S. —a life-changing experience.
“The future of business must care for both the heart and the body.”
Guided by memories of scent, light, sound, taste, and warmth from her childhood,
she envisioned a space that would heal all five senses in harmony with nature.
After two years of preparation, she opened the first Relaken in Fukuoka, Japan.
Blending traditional Japanese healing with modern relaxation, it quickly gained popularity.
Her company, ASC, went public in Japan and expanded to 20 locations across Japan and 3 in the U.S.
Since 2010, she has been based in Los Angeles, leading three core ventures:
Wellness, Design, and Real Estate Development, sharing healing across cultures and borders.
From Akemi Yamamoto
“Healing is not a luxury—it’s the foundation of living fully.
Spa Relaken is a place you can always return to.
And I will always carry Rita no Kokoro—the spirit of serving others—on this journey toward global wellness.”
